Driving to New Orleans where it is 9C.
Memphis is on the Mississippi River in the south west corner of Tennessee.
We stopped by the Mississippi River and braved the cold to take a look at this mighty river. From where we stood we could see the 3 states – Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.

We had a few miles to cover today. Stopped off at a Walmart to stock up on some supplies. That’s an experience. Don’t think they spend much on customer service training for their staff. I think we were seen as more of an inconvenience than customers!!
Next stop was the crossing of Lake Pontchartrain. The bridge crosses the lake at the widest part and is 24 miles in length. The longest bridge over water in the world.
We have arrived in New Orleans. We are staying in the French Quarter which meant navigating through the narrow one-way streets to find the French Market Inn. It’s old and quaint and conveniently just around the corner from Antoine’s. It is the oldest restaurant in New Orleans (possibly the whole country) continuously serving food since 1840. This was our belated birthday present to Sean. We had arranged it back in June. We started with some great cocktails French 75 (champagne cocktail) for the ladies and Sazarac for the gents (and Sara). We dined on some great Gulf seafood – the crab was so sweet; the shrimp delicious and the birthday dessert – yum.
Mississippi River is huge, and the Lake sounds massive! Amazing fact that the bridge is the longest over water in the world.
Good to see lovely “tucker’ was devoured for the belated birthday celebration!
It has been an amazing journey so far Susan and after spending a couple of relaxing days in Dallas for Xmas we are on the road again today heading to Amarillo. Hope you are enjoying the ride with us.
