Nashville, Tennessee

Saturday 14th December 2019

Today was all about country music. We visited the Country Music Hall of Fame to hear the stories of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Tammy Wynette, June Carter, Rosanne Cash, Garth Brooks, Pierce Webb, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Taylor Swift, Charlie Daniels, Brooks and Dunn, Kacey Musgraves and the list goes on and on.

We then hit the streets to experience the mayhem of Broadway on a Saturday afternoon with all the Honky Tonks in full swing and thousands of people in town for the ice hockey match between the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars. The party buses were out in full swing with crazy people doing lots of crazy stuff. We saw a John Deere tractor pulling a long trailer full of partygoers complete with gas heaters, the Redneck Comedy Bus Tour and heaps of 12-person party cycles with everyone shouting country music songs and swilling copious quantities of beer. As they say ‘the place was going off.’

Then tonight we went to the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium. This was the original home to the Opry from 1943 to 1974. The Opry returns to the Ryman only a few times a year for special occasions, so we were very lucky. The last time we were in Nashville we went to the Opry at the usual venue which is a bit out of town.

The entertainment was a mixture of great music, comedy with lashings of quirkiness.
