Toronto Day 2

Toronto is a busy city with plenty happening, especially lots of road and rail construction as well as condominiums going up everywhere. There are currently 116 condo projects.

Had a guided tour of the city and checked out the different areas of Toronto. It is divided up into about 8 areas – Harbour, Financial District, Distillery District, Chinatown, Downtown Yonge and more.  I also took a harbour cruise and sailed past the airport that is in the harbour and across to a couple of islands.  It was a beautiful day.  Just like summer.  Blue skies, sunshine, no clouds and warm (22C).  When winter comes the Lake will freeze over so all of the boats will need to be lifted out of the water and most of them are wrapped in plastic (like shrink wrapping) to protect them from the elements.

Got some great views of the CN (Canadian National) Tower.  It is 553 mts tall and was the tallest building in the world when constructed.  Now is has been surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.  It is more than 800mt tall.

After the cruise I got dropped off down town at the Eaton Centre.  Had a delicious lunch of normal proportions, plus a cup of tea.   I was surprised that the meal was really delicious and the tea was hot.  I took a walk from there up the Blore District to the Bata Shoe Musuem.  That was a bit of fun.

I decided to walk back and do some more exploring instead of walking underground in the shopping centres. They are all connected.  I walked along Yonge (pronounced Young) Street.  It is the longest street in North America running for nearly 1900 kms.  It was a strange mix – ranging from costume shops, coffee shops, money exchanges, adult shops, many eating establishments of every nationality.  Toronto has a vast multi-cultural society.

Dinner tonight was in the revolving restaurant on top of the CN Tower.  Food was delicious and the views were fantastic.  Got some great photos of the Blue Jays playing baseball in the Stadium at the Rogers Centre at the base of the Tower.
