Washington Day 1

Thursday 5th December 2019

Great start to our Washington adventure. Carmel, Geoff and I took a guided tour to get ourselves orientated with the Capitol of US of A.

It started at Capitol Hill with a tour through parts of the building which included an unexpected introduction to a real live US Congressman from California – Jim Costa.

Washington has many memorials to past presidents and their war veterans. All are very impressive and they are still building more. We saw a few – World War 11, Vietnam War, Korean War, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Martin Luther King Memorial, Franklin D Roosevelt plus more. The White House – we caught glimpses whilst it was in the preparation stages for the Christmas Tree lighting tonight. We hadn’t received our invitations to the White House so we headed to Carmines to meet up with an Australian friend of Carmel’s Louise. What a meal. Their famous for their pasta – we ordered 2 meals for 4 people. We took home the leftovers (enough for another 4 meals). Huge servings would be a gross understatement.

One comment to “Washington Day 1”
  1. Looking good in the US of A!
Great to see Capitol Hill and as well as all the memorials. It’s a shame that you didn’t get an invitation to the White House…. I need to speak with Donald to ensure you get special treatment for the rest of your trip!
Hope you enjoyed the leftovers! Keep enjoying it all.
    Love, Susan
