We picked up a hire car from the airport and drove north out of Auckland to Warkworth. With no real plan in mind we have ended up in Algies Bay. A beautiful little seaside village with a self contained cottage right on the beach. We have spent a few days relaxing and recharging our batteries. The tide goes out a long way here, just like Burrum Heads.
We have been enjoying delicious lunches each day in Matakana – another lovely little village about 10kms north of here. In the evenings we have been feasting of wonderful local produce – avocados, mushrooms, asparagus, tomatoes, apples, eggs and of course some great NZ wine. Naturally we have to sample the local chocolate and finish off with a cup of tea.

I went for a walk around Algies Bay on Tuesday afternoon and found myself coming to the rescue of a fellow MG owner. She has a bright red MGTF, 1955 model. My car is a 1954. Anyway she has owned the car for 22 years and is preparing it for sale. So I jumped in and went for a drive with her however she had a spot of car trouble. Pleased to say I was able to sort it out for her and after an hour she was happily on her way again.
I also came across all of these interesting letter boxes. Some folk are quite creative and resourceful.
Looks good Susan and I look forward to venturing around Auckland in March.

I reckon you and John would enjoy the laid back quiet Bay that is Algies. The accommodation is good and we were right on the beach. I was able to do plenty of exploring while Geoff was sleeping off his cold. Matakana is great little village. We just don’t seem to have little villages like that in Australia. A few hundred people but there are heaps of great little shops, fabulous restaurants, cafes, art galleries, wineries etc etc – open every day of the week.
